Abstract:

Over the past twenty years, growing interest in product customisation has driven research in the area of flexible metal forming processes - environmentally friendly, sustainable processes for low volume, small batch production. This talk presents a range of flexible forming processes but focuses on two key examples of flexible metal forming, Incremental Sheet Forming and Flexible Asymmetric Spinning. Both processes are examined in detail, with specific focus on modelling analysis and control, ultimately leading to the design of a novel flexible forming process.

 

Biograph:

Omer Music holds Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Middle East Technical University and a PhD in Engineering, from the University of Cambridge. The first five years of his career were spent in industry, working on modelling and analysis of metal forming processes and bearing structural analysis, which formed a major part of research for his Master’s degree. In the last 8 years, his research has been focused on development of novel metal forming processes.

In 2011, he was awarded an international award for outstanding applied research in metal forming and has so far authored over 50 publications, including two book chapters. He is an active reviewer for a number of manufacturing journals, and member of various committees for key international conferences.
