On Primitive Roots
by Peter Roquette, Heidelberg University
The University of Goettingen contains the legacy of Helmut Hasse, consisting of letters, manuscripts and other papers. Searching through this treasure can help to assess the
development of Number Theory through the 1920s and 1930s. In my talk, which will be of historical nature, I shall report about the interpretation of our findings in Goettingen, and also at other sources, concerning the famous Artin conjecture on primitive roots for prime numbers.
