Vibrational Properties of Cu Nanowires under Stretching

I shall present a comparative study of the local vibrational properties of Cu nanowires with the axial orientation of <100>. We have evaluated the local density of states (LDOS) using a real space Green's function approach with the force constant matrix generated from the interacting potential based on the embedded atom method. We have found that the LDOS exhibit quite distinctive characteristics when the nanowire is under tension, the most striking feature of which is an overall shift towards the high frequency modes above the bulk band for the nanowires with small cross-sectional area. I shall also discuss the varying characteristics in LDOS from atom to atom on the nanowire.
