An Interdisciplinary Engineering Approach on Physical Therapy Rehabilitation
Working with a multidisciplinary team enables us to find new ways to solve clinical problems and bridges the gap in between disciplines to improve healthcare. Interdisciplinary approach on healthcare practices, particularly the use of Mechatronics know-how, is a great way to understand and tackle the clinical needs in physical therapy research. I’d like to present a selection of projects we have worked on to solve important clinical problems ranging from Cerebral Palsy to Stroke in collaboration with physical therapists and medical doctors. Making use of technologies like interactive devices, tele-operated mobile robots and wearable devices to enhance physical therapy research will be discussed. Through examples, I'd like to point out how development of new systems and devices helps us address medical problems and help clinicians to better serve patients.
