Title : Activities presentation in ICT domain in Carnot LSI Institute and some advances in tangible interface
 
Summary :  The first part of the talk will be centered on research panorama in ICT at Grenoble (France) concerning the main topics : (a) smart building and (b) medicine applications. We will conclude with some recommendations about needs on user centered methodology and interfaces. The second part of the talk will start by a short overview on HCI trends then on the concept of tangible interaction. Tangisense (tangible table for collaborative interaction with objects) will be presented and some results about usage evaluation will be discussed.
 
Born in 1947, Jean CAELEN is a senior researcher (CNRS Research Director) and co-director of Carnot LSI Institute. He managed since 1992 until 1997, the French Man-Machine Communication Program supported by French government to stimulate scientific activities across French research laboratories in the domain of Man-Machine Communication (speech, natural language, vision and HCI). He participated in numerous European and International projects (from Esprit I, 1988, to now). His present thematic interest concerns natural and multimodal spontaneous interaction (including the voice). He published about 170 papers in the domain of these various aspects. Ten years ago, he created the MultiCom platform and conducted many projects on interface design and evaluation. MultiCom is a consulting and research platform specialized in human factors, usability and safety in product and system design.
