Title:               Topological Exciton Condensates Controlled by Spin-Orbit Coupling

Abstract:

Topological Exciton Condensates (TEC) with or without particle-hole symmetry are theoretically expected to be cousins of topological superconductors (TSC) as well as 2D noncentrosymmetric superconductors (NSC). Unlike the 3D TSCs, there is no known stable 3D version of the TEC. In this talk, In this talk, we will briefly discuss, from the fundamental symmetries' point of view, the new physics brought by the weak and strong topological insulators as well as superconductors. We will then introduce the TEC and describe how a Rashba type spin-orbit coupling can be continuously tuned to change the relative strength of the singlet and the triplet condensates and hence flip the TEC between the topologically trivial and non-trivial phases.
