INTRODUCTION
Sabancı University (SU), positions itself to be one of the most innovative and research-oriented universities in Turkey. As part of its philosophy, the University aims to direct its research efforts primarily towards applied and strategic research with the objectives of advancing knowledge, supporting teaching and contributing to the progress of the community.
Since the year 1999, when the first generation of students were accepted as freshmen, the University has reached to a respected and significant position in applied research.
Since its establisment, many national and international research projects were initiated in cooperation with various national and international institutions. Current research grants and contracts have reached 30 million YTL (approximately 20 million USD / 16 million EUR) where by active contracts constitute 90 percent of this portfolio.
Main sources of grants are European Commission, The Scientific and Tehnological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK) and the State Planning Organization (DPT). Our contracts primarily constitute commercial research and industrial R&D activities. Sabancı University also supports early stage research efforts through institutional funding mechanisms. Primary research outputs are Publications and Theses by faculty members and students, and Patents that are granted.
