Abstract:Sub-THz frequencies (specifically from 252 to 322GHz) are aimed for ultra-high data-rate owing to available ultra-wideband bandwidth (BW). CMOS is mainly considered technology here, due to the advantages on repeatability, reliability, yield, and cost compared to other silicon technologies. However, CMOS transistors and passives have limited performances especially as the working frequency increases which degrades the wireless communication performance considerably. In this talk, these limitations are investigated and their effects on the whole wireless system performance are presented. State-of-the-art transceiver topologies are shared, and the required improvements are clarified. Possible solutions are presented on architectural level. In addition, critical building circuit blocks for sub-terahertz systems are introduced along with state-of-the-art literature. The requirements for these blocks are introduced along with the limitations, some possible solutions are provided. Discussions on the proposed solutions are presented.
