Title: Entrepreneurial Capital: Silicon Valley History and Startup Economy

Abstract: In this talk, we discuss entrepreneurship and the innovation ecosystem with an introduction on Silicon Valley’s history, then an emphasize on what makes this place so unique compared to others and how the technology revolution has blossomed the technology waves, exemplifying the major milestones of the Artificial Intelligent era. 

BIO: Mustafa Ergen is professor in İstanbul Technical University and Chief Technology Advisor in Turk Telekom. Previously, Mustafa co-founded Silicon Valley startup WiChorus Inc. focusing 4G technologies and company is acquired by Tellabs [now Coriant]. He was earlier a National Semiconductor Fellow [now TI] at the University of California Berkeley, where he co-founded the Distributed Sensing Lab, focusing on statistical sensor intelligence and vehicular communication.  Mustafa completed four programs from UC Berkeley: PhD and MS degrees in electrical engineering, MA degree from international studies and MOT program from HAAS Business School. His BS is from electrical engineering as valedictorian from ODTU. Prof. Ergen has more than 45 patent applications, many publications and authored three books: “Mobile Broadband” and “Multi-Carrier Digital Communications” are about wireless communications and published from Springer. Last one is in Turkish and titled “Entrepreneurial Capital – Silicon Valley History and Startup Economy”, 3rd edition - published by Alfa Publishing. Prof. Ergen is also founder of venture funded Ambeent Inc. and Next-Ion Energy Inc. focusing respectively 5G AI and battery energy.  He is an adjunct professor in Koç University and served in board of trustees of TOBB ETU University. He is also serving in 5G-PPP/Networld2020, Turcas Petrol A.Ş. and Güneş Sigorta as board member.
