A new course: CS 409 Introduction to scientific computing

CS 409 : Introduction to Scientific Computing is a new
course that is offered this semester. In this course, the focus is on solving
scientific problems such as linear systems, least squares, eigenvalue problems,
nonlinear equations and optimization problems using numerical and iterative
techniques. The stability and convergence of such computational  algorithms
will be discussed. This course could be beneficial for all engineering
disciplines in that in many engineering applications, an optimization problem
or an equation needs to be solved numerically.

CS 409 is a core course for CS and mechatronics major programs
and for mathematics minor program.
