2022-2023 Academic Year Dr. Gürsel Sönmez Research Award ( 7 May 2023)
Dr. Gürsel Sönmez Research Award is to be granted for 2022-2023 Academic Year by Sabancı University, to commemorate our honorable faculty member and to promote successful academic research.
The award will be given by the award jury to at least one FENS PhD graduate or PhD graduate candidate, who has come into prominence with outstanding research.
Dr. Gürsel Sönmez Research Award Terms and Conditions:
A total amount of 15.000 TL will be awarded to the winner(s).
All FENS PhD students who graduated in or after 2020-2021 Spring semester or will graduate in 2022- 2023 Spring semester (including the candidates who will defend their thesis by 26th of JULY, 2023) are eligible for application or nomination.
The candidates may apply for the award themselves or they may be nominated by FENS faculty members. Each candidate may apply or may be nominated only once.
All applications and nominations should be made through the online system until May 07, 2023.
Award jury members are assigned by FENS Dean’s suggestion and President’s approval.
The jury will consider candidates’ work/ thesis, research findings and their impact and contributions, publications, patents etc. produced during their research studies at Sabancı University for evaluation.
The evaluation will be completed with President’s approval.

In the online the application,
A resume/CV including the full list of the candidate’s academic works,
A cover letter, summarizing the candidate’s work along with obtained results and impact on the field, (please state your best 3 papers or add them to the pdf)
Selected minimum 1 maximum 3 journal papers
One recommendation letter from the advisor and 2 name suggestions to evaluate the candidate and his/her work,
If any, information documenting any rewards/recognitions/ applied or accepted patent(s) on the candidate’s work
should be submitted, and
∙ The publications (journal articles, conference proceedings/presentations, books, book chapters etc.) produced from the candidate’s work should be entered in the Research Database.
