Abstract:L-functions are defined for various arithmetical objects such as Dirichlet characters, algebraic curves and modular forms. The study of the distribution of values of L-functions and their zeros, the points at which they vanish, is on the course of analytic number theory to explore intricacies of these arithmetical objects. In this talk, we will provide a brief introduction to the value distribution of L-functions, and present examples of research  from our work in this area.

Bio: Fatma Çiçek is a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Northern British Columbia working with Alia Hamieh and Stanley Yao Xiao in analytic number theory. She is interested in problems about value distribution of L-functions, distribution of zeros of L-functions, and elliptic curves. Previously, she was a PIMS postdoctoral fellow of the Collaborative Research Group, L-functions in Analytic Number Theory, at the same institution. Prior to that, she was an Assistant Research Professor at the Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar.

Fatma obtained her PhD degree from the University of Rochester in 2020 under the supervision of Steve Gonek with her thesis ‘The Logarithm of the Riemann Zeta Function Near Nontrivial Zeros’. By 2014, she completed her undergraduate and master’s studies at Boğaziçi University in Turkey.
