Abstract:
Superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles are exciting materials offering numerous benefits in the field of bio-nanotechnology including diagnostics, therapy as well as magnetic separation. Major road blockers in front of the applications are the control of particle size, stability and surface chemistry. In this talk, the need for small (<100 and <50nm) and stable SPIOs and different approaches to their synthesis with designed surfaces will be discussed. Cell uptake and contrast enhancement properties of some of these nanoparticles will also be covered.
