PHYS 484 & 584 Quantum Computation and Quantum Information
PHYS 484 & 584 Quantum Computation and Quantum Information Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences will offer an introductory course on quantum computation and quantum information in 2005 Spring Semester. The course is open to students from other universities and it is designed for undergraduate and graduate students in science or engineering programs. Students from other disciplines can also attend the course if they have some background on elementary linear algebra and complex numbers. No previous knowledge of quantum mechanics is required. Textbook is Quantum Computation and Quantum Information by Michael A. Nielsen and Isaac L. Chuang (Cambridge, 2000) however entire book will not be covered and some research articles will be used occasionally. Course outline: · History of quantum computation and quantum information, teleportation, quantum algorithms · Postulates of quantum mechanics, entanglement · Turing machines, computational complexity · Quantum circuits · Quantum Fourier transform, phase estimation, applications · Quantum search algorithms · Physical realization of quantum computers · Quantum noise and quantum operations, quantum process tomography · Distance measures for quantum information · Quantum error-correction, fault-tolerant quantum computation · Entropy and information · Quantum information theory, quantum cryptography For more information contact: Zafer Gedik E-Mail: gedik@sabanciuniv.edu Phone: (216) 483 9610
