FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES IN EU FRAME PROGRAMS

NANOTECHNOLOGIES THEME

·        Opportunities for participation in the last two years of FP7 with a focus on the nanotechnology, materials and production (NMP) theme and future directions,  Dr. Nicholas Deliyanakis, Deputy Head of Unit, Industrial Technologies, European Commission, Directorate General for  Research and Innovation

The 7th Framework Programme for Research (FP7, 2007-13) is the European Union's main programme for funding R&D and supporting innovation. It has a total budget of more than €50 billion, of which €7.5 billion will be committed under the Work Programme 2012, to be published in late July 2011. Turkey is one of the associated countries of FP7 and Turkish partners (academia, research centres and industry) can participate in collaborative projects. The structure of the programme will be outlined, with a focus on one of the themes, nanotechnology, materials and production (NMP). Practical aspects of preparing and submitting proposals and participating in projects will also be discussed. Finally, the current thinking of the Commission on the future of EU research and innovation funding after 2013 will be presented.

Nicholas Deliyanakis

 

Nicholas Deliyanakis works in the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Research and Innovation, as the deputy head of the policy unit for industrial technologies. He helps develop the strategy for research and innovation to support European industry. He has also worked as a programme officer in nanotechnology and in the Marie Curie programme for the development of human resources in research. Before joining the Commission staff in 1999, he spent 11 years in nuclear fusion research in the UK, mostly at the European nuclear fusion project JET; and as a physics tutor at Oxford University. He obtained a first-class degree in physics from King’s College London and a doctorate in plasma physics from Oxford University; and is a Chartered Physicist, Member of the Institute of Physics and Associate of King's College.
