RECENT ADVANCES IN MOBILE COMPUTER GRAPHICS

Tolga Capin

Abstract:

Recent technological advances have made it possible to bring rich graphics content and applications to mobile devices. Key enablers of this evolution are improvements in computational power, displays, support for graphics acceleration hardware, and open software platforms. However, challenges remain to cope with ever increasing complexity of graphics models, rising memory/power requirements, and more advanced user interaction needs. Better solutions are needed for speed and battery power optimization for real-time rendering, harnessing next-generation graphics hardware accelerators, and graphics platforms that can scale to different display capabilities.

In this talk, we will review the state of the art in mobile graphics area, current solutions and standards, and emerging use cases. We will then cover limitations of the current technology and the emerging research areas in mobile graphics.
