Seeking Two Master Students for Academic Project in Cancer

Project overview:

We are initiating an academic project focused on bioinformatics analysis of mutagenesis in cancer. This project provides an excellent platform for students interested in application of computational methods for molecular biology of cancer. Our project focuses on the identification of driver mutations crucial for cancer diagnosis and treatment. We aim to develop mutagen-specific background models for two common cancer-causing agents: APOBEC family enzymes and UV radiation. These models will consider mutagen-specific heterogeneity in mutation distribution, improving the accuracy of diagnosis and enabling personalized treatment for cancer patients.

Responsibilities:

- Conducting thorough literature reviews

- Collection, organization, and analysis of data

- Collaboration with team members

- Utilizing programming skills to develop algorithms, scripts, and models

- Presenting research findings through reports and presentations

Requirements:

- Enrollment in a Master's program in Computer Science / Molecular Biology

- Proficiency in programming languages such as C/C++, Rust, Python or R

- Experience in data visualization and plotting using R or Python

- Competence in working with computational clusters would be considered a plus

Duration and Compensation:

The project officially begins on April 1, 2024, but students may have the option to join at a later date, subject to discussion and agreement with the project team.
