Utilization of peptides/proteins in synthesis of nanomaterials
Dr. Erinç Şahin (University of Delaware)
Abstract:
a) Self-assembling structures in nanomaterials design and protein-polymer hybrids as self-assembling nanostructures
b) Expression of de novo designed proteins for synthesis of nanomaterials:
Discovery of an evolutionary pattern on amino acid choices of organisms
Synthesis of nanomaterials is dominated by two schools of design:
top-down and bottom-up approaches. Followed by a discussion of examples
from both schools of design, I will be presenting a case of bottom-up
approach, using self-assembly potential of peptide-PEG copolymers that
carry desirable characteristics from each component. In addition, I
will be discussing challenges of production of de novo designed
recombinant proteins from an evolutionary perspective, suggesting some
insights on selective pressures on isoelectric points of proteins.
