Starting 2011/2012 Fall semester, there will be some important changes
in the Computer Science and Engineering curriculum. The students, who
have declared CS as their diploma program or plan to do so, are highly
recommended to consider these changes while they are planning the
courses that they will take.
1) CS204 (advanced programming): The content of this course is slightly
modified and this course became an integral course in the CS
curriculum. The prerequisite of CS204 is CS201 and it will be offered
in spring semesters, as before. However, CS204 now became prerequisite
course of many other CS courses. Therefore, the students who took CS201
but not CS204 are recommended to take CS204 in 2011 summer school.
2) Data Structures course has been moved to junior year fall semester by
changing its code to CS300. With its old code (CS202), it has been
opened in Spring 2011'de for the last time and it will not be opened as
CS202 anymore. Those who have taken and completed CS202 do not need to
take CS300 (actually since these two courses will be treated as
equivalent by ÖK, it cannot be taken). The prerequisite of CS300 is
CS204. CS300 will be offered in fall semesters. Those, who have taken
and passed CS201 but not CS204, can be given prerequisite override only
for Fall 2011. However, as said before, the best thing that these
students can do is to take CS204 in 2011 summer school.
3) CS301 (Algorithms): Old prerequisite was CS202. New prerequisite is
CS300. Since ÖK will treat CS202 and CS300 as equivalent courses, the
students who have passed CS202 would be considered to fulfill the new
prerequisite condition. CS301 will be offered in spring semesters from
now on.
4) CS307 (Operating Systems): Old prerequisite was CS202. New
prerequisite is CS204. Those who have taken and passed CS202 would be
considered to fulfill the new prerequisite condition.
5) CS308 (Software Engineering): Old prerequisite was CS202. New
prerequisite is CS204. Those who have taken and passed CS202 would be
considered to fulfill the new prerequisite condition.
6) CS402 (Compiler Design): Old prerequisites were CS202 and CS305. New
prerequisites are CS204 and CS305. Those who have taken and passed CS202
and CS305 would be considered to fulfill the new prerequisite condition.
7) CS405 (Computer Graphics): Old prerequisite was CS202. New
co-requisite (in the sense that it is taken before or, if not, it should
be taken together) is CS300. Since ÖK will treat CS202 and CS300 as
equivalent courses, the students who have passed CS202 would be
considered to fulfill the new co-requisite condition.
