Autophagy in health and disease
Goal of the Course: The goal of this course is to introduce students to contemporary concepts in cell biology, medicine and especially "autophagy" (a key biological processes and a stress-response mechanism in cells). Autophagy is a cellular degradation process that was conserved from yeast to man. Several pathologies, including neurodegenerative diseases (e.g. Alzheimer's disease), cancer and infectious diseases were found to involve autophagy abnormalities. The course offers students an opportunity to revise and discuss basic cell biology concepts. Moreover, it is a unique introduction to the biology human health-related problems, disease mechanisms and medical issues.
