2025-2026 Academic Year Dr. Gürsel Sönmez Research Award
Dr. Gürsel Sönmez Research Award is to be granted for 2025-2026 Academic Year by Sabancı University, to commemorate our honorable faculty member and to promote successful academic research.
The award will be given by the award jury to at least one FENS PhD graduate or PhD graduate candidate, who has come into prominence with outstanding research.
Dr. Gürsel Sönmez Research Award Terms and Conditions:
- A total amount of 50.000 TL will be awarded to the winner(s) at the ceremony that will be held on June 12th, 2026.
- All FENS PhD students who graduated in or after 2023-2024 Spring semester or will graduate in 2025- 2026 Spring semester (including the candidates who will defend their thesis by 22nd of JULY, 2026) are eligible for application.
- The candidates may apply for the award themselves or they may be nominated by FENS faculty members. Each candidate may apply or may be nominated only once.
- All applications and nominations should be made through the online system until April 10th, 2026.
- The jury will consider candidates’ work/thesis, research findings and their impact and contributions, publications, patents etc. produced during their research studies at Sabancı University for evaluation.

In the online application,
- A resume/CV including the full list of the candidate’s academic works,
- A cover letter, summarizing the candidate’s work along with obtained results and impact on the field, (please state your best 3 papers and add them to the pdf),
- Upload one slide summarizing your research,
- Select a faculty member from the list who will serve as your referee. An email will be sent automatically to the selected faculty member requesting them to complete the reference letter.
- If any information documenting any rewards/recognitions/applied or accepted patent(s) on the candidate’s work should be submitted, and
· For each application to be considered, the publications (journal articles, conference proceedings / presentations, books, book chapters etc.) listed in the CV MUST be entered in the Research Database by the application deadline!!!
