Our Physics Graduate Alumnus A. Mert Bozkurt Appointed to the Scientific Board of the Quantum Energy Initiative

We are proud to announce that our alumnus, Dr. A. Mert Bozkurt, has been appointed to the Scientific Board of the international Quantum Energy Initiative (QEI). Dr. Bozkurt earned his PhD in Theoretical Physics from Sabancı University, where his research focused on topological systems, quantum transport, and thermodynamics under the supervision of Prof. İnanç Adagideli. Following his doctoral studies, he conducted postdoctoral research at QuTech, TU Delft, where he specialized in the theory and simulation of quantum devices, working at the critical interface between fundamental physics and quantum hardware.

Currently serving as a Lead Quantum Engineer at QuantWare in the Netherlands, Dr. Bozkurt heads a team dedicated to developing superconducting readout circuits and their on-chip integration—foundational technologies required for scalable quantum processors.

Energy Efficiency and the Future of Quantum Computing

In his new role on the QEI Scientific Board, Dr. Bozkurt will contribute his expertise to one of the most pressing challenges in the field: the energy efficiency of fault-tolerant quantum computation. His work will help shape the initiative’s academic and industrial vision, specifically in areas such as:
- Superconducting devices for quantum technologies
- Hardware aspects of Quantum Error Correction (QEC).
- Designing sustainable and scalable quantum architectures.

Dr. Bozkurt’s transition from fundamental science to cutting-edge quantum engineering exemplifies the global impact of Sabancı University’s research vision.
