2005-2006 Application to FENS Graduate Programs

2005-2006 ACADEMIC YEAR FALL TERM GRADUATE PROGRAM APPLICATIONS 

Graduate students will be accepted for 2005-2006 fall semester leading to the M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in the following programs. Biological Sciences and Bioengineering

The program emphasizes the latest developments and technological innovations in this globally emerging field. Areas of specialization include molecular and cellular biology, bioinformatics and plant biotechnology.

Electronics Engineering and Computer Science

The program offers research opportunities in various areas related to electrical engineering, mechanical engineering and information technologies. For the 2005-2006 1st semester, graduate students will be accepted in the following areas:

  2. Mechatronics: smart product design, microsystems, intelligent control systems, robotics, machine vision, computer aided engineering, renewable energy systems, and embedded systems.   3. Telecommunications: Wireless communication, signal, speech and image processing, data networks, RF, microwaves, antennas and propagation. Research assistant positions available in RF MEMS and RF Circuit design.

  4.   Microelectronics: Optoelectronics, optical communication, RF design, microsensors and microelectromechanical systems, acoustics, medical instrumentation, analog and digital VLSI design, SoC ASIC design, computer-aided design and testing.

    Applicants with a background in computer science, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, physics, mathematics and similar areas are welcome.     

Industrial Engineering

The program focuses on production and service systems, integrated manufacturing, supply chain management, logistics, joint inventory-pricing decisions, product development process, modeling and analysis of manufacturing processes and equipment, manufacturing and technology strategies, fuzzy systems, combinatorial optimization and operations research approaches to telecommunication and energy systems. Emphasis is given to close collaboration with the industry.

Materials Science and Engineering

The program focuses on the interrelationships between structure, properties and processing of materials for advanced technological applications.  Areas of ongoing research include semiconductors, synthetic and biological polymers, ceramics and composites.

Mathematics

The program emphasizes the interaction between pure mathematics and its applications, including those leading to interdisciplinary work. The main areas of concentration are number theory and algebra with applications in coding theory and cryptography, analysis and applications.

General Requirements:

Applicants must have completed their previous degree programs by 5th of September 2005, at the latest. Transcripts from all attended institutions of higher education are required from the applicants. Previous degrees may be in any field of Science or Engineering as long as the applicant has relevant background.  Required documents are listed below:

  1. LES Exam Result: Applicants must score at least 45 in numerical section, For PHD Programs with bachelor degree minimum score 55 from LES.  A minimum total score of 950 in “quantitative” and "verbal" and a minimum total score of 3,5 in “analytical writing” parts of the GRE exam is required from foreign applicants, and may replace the LES requirement for Turkish citizens. 1.Candidates applying for Information Technology Master's Program  is required to have minimum  550 scores. GMAT Exam Result  is also available instead of   LES or GRE exam.
  2. Candidates who apply to the program will be accepted if provided that any of the following English proficiency exam result.Test scores older than 2 years are not acceptable for TOEFL and LES. GRE, IELTS, ÜDS, KPDS and GMAT exam scores taken within the last 5 years are accepted.

    Other Programs: Minimum score 213

    IELTS
    All Programs: Minimum score 6,5
    Leaders of Industry: Not acceptable

    KPDS
    Information Technologies: Minimum score 70
    Other Programs: Minimum score 75
    Leaders For Industry: Not acceptable

    UDS
    Information Technologies: Minimum score 70
    Other Programs: Minimum score 80
    Leaders For Industry: Not acceptable

    Sabanci University English Language Assessment Exam (S _'satisfactory')
     

  • All transcripts must be submitted in sealed envelopes given by the administration of the student’s university.

  • Applicants must submit two reference letters (sample in application form).

  • Applicants can apply for two different programs. However, they must indicate their program preferences under “choice of study” section in the application form and applicants who apply to more than one graduate program are required to submit separate application packages for each program.

Financial Support: Financial support is available in the form of monthly stipend and/or full tuition waivers. Decisions on scholarship will be made by the Admission Committee during the evaluation period.

Deadline: Applications must be submitted by June 3, 2005. After initial screening, interviews will be scheduled for potential candidates at Sabancı University during June 8 - 10, 2005
