Sucess of Gursel Sonmez

A Turkish scientist’s invention resonates in the international
arena Gursel Sonmez, faculty member at Sabanci University-FENS, details
his invention in the cover story “Polymeric Electrochromic” of Chemical
Communications, one of the most important reference periodicals in the
world of science.

Sonmez has received the Turkish Academy of Sciences (TUBA) 2005
“Distinguished Young Scientist Award.” In “Polymeric Electrochromic” he
discusses the issues related to electrochromic  polymers (polymers
that can change color according to electrical current); Sonmez’s
article describes the importance ofhis invention, “the first polymer to reflect the color green.”

Türk bilim adamının buluşu, uluslararası arenada ses
getirdi. Sabancı Üniversitesi öğretim üyesi Gürsel Sönmez’in buluşu
bilim dünyasının en önemli referans dergileri arasında yer alan
Chemical Communications’da “Polimerik Elektrokromik”başlığıyla kapak makalesi oldu. Türkiye Bilimler Akademisi’nin (TÜBA) 2005 yılında “Seçkin Genç
Bilimci Ödülü”nü de alan Sönmez’in “Polimerik Elektrokromik” 
makalesi, elektrokromik polimerler (elektrik akımı ile renk
değiştirebilen polimerler) alanını kapsıyor. Sönmez, makalesinde buluşu
olan “ilk yeşil renk yansıtan polimer” ve öneminden bahsediyor.
