Correlation between structural and magnetic properties in Ir20Mn80/Co90Fe10 based exchange bias systems

Abstract: One of the research areas in my research group is the Spintronic for data
storage and magnetic field sensor applications. The Exchange Bias (EB) coupling between an antiferromagnetic pinning layer and a ferromagnetic layer [1,2] is indispensable in Spin Valves for data storage and magnetic field sensors. In spite of wide range applications, EB phenomenon is still being investigated intensively both experimentally and theoretically [3-6].
The EB field and exchange anisotropy energy were generally correlated with the <111> out of plane texture developing with under layers (ULs) and consequently the choice of ULs for the deposition of AF layer becomes crucial. IrMn/CoFe is the material of chose with the L12 phase IrMn3 for most of the applications due to its high exchange anisotropy constant and high blocking temperature [7-9], where L12-IrMn3 could be formed only by deposition at high substrate temperatures [7, 8]. In our last study we have investigated the correlation between texture, interface roughness and magnetic properties in Ir20Mn80/Co90Fe10 based bottom EB system with Ta/NiFe ULs. L12 phase IrMn3 could be formed by deposition at room temperature.

In this presentation, a short introduction on spintronic, exchange bias coupling in spin valves and a summary of our last unpublished results will be given.
