Dr. Mehmet Kaynak

"This prize of the Leibniz Association goes to the IHP"

At the annual meeting of the Leibniz Association in Berlin Dr. Mehmet Kaynak received this year's Young Investigator Award .

The prize is awarded in each of the categories " Social Sciences " and " natural sciences and engineering ." 2014 was the first time three winners. Thus, the Leibniz Association honors three outstanding theses from the 89 member institutions, of which about 600 were completed in 2013 . In the selection phase reached the top ten doctoral / -Innen throughout the Leibniz Association.

Dr. Mehmet Kaynak studied " Electronics and communication engineering " in the bachelor's degree at the Technical University in Istanbul, Turkey . In the master at the Sabancı University Istanbul, he specialized in microelectronics. This is also the theme of his doctoral thesis, which he at IHP - Leibniz Institute for Innovative Microelectronics in Frankfurt (Oder ) and at the Technical University of Berlin, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and computer science , wrote, and in February 2014 the TU Berlin with "summa cum laude " graduated . "For me, the price is a great honor, it makes me happy that my work is recognized. Also, I am of course that I could get that price to the IHP , "says Dr. Kaynak . With his dissertation "RF MEMS switch modules in a 0:25 micron SiGe: C BiCMOS Process" he has made important contributions to future cost- and energy- efficient communication systems. Applications are in the sensors (eg . As Imaging for security systems and medical devices), in the fast wireless transfer of large amounts of data in radar technology , especially for civil aviation, and space technology.

The 33 -year-old researcher worked in 2007 for the first time as a student researcher at Sabancı University, together with IHP scientists in an EU project. A year later he came to Frankfurt ( Oder) and head of the research in the field of RF MEMS ( radio frequency micro-electro- mechanical systems). " The IHP is one of the best research institutes. For my thesis, I found the necessary support here, be it the technical equipment or the temporal flexibility, " adds Kaynak . Total Kaynak published 21 publications as first and 52 co-wrote and presented his results at international conferences.
"The excellent PhD thesis of Dr. Kaynak is for us as a flagship institution . We conduct research at a high international level and at the same time promote young scientists . Dr. Kaynak initiated two major EU projects on IHP proved time and again its ability to function in complex scientific projects and organize international cooperation with industrial partners academician- and effectively," says Prof. Dr. Bernd Tillack, Scientific and Technical Director of the IHP .
