Success of M.S. Mechatronics Engineering Graduate Alihan Kaya

The journal article of title " The effects of inlet restriction and tube size on boiling instabilities and detection of resulting premature critical heat flux in microtubes using data analysis " of Sabancı University M.S. Mechatronics Engineering graduate Alihan Kaya, which was co-authored by the Faculty Members Dr. Mehmet Keskinoz and Dr. Ali Koşar and his research mate Mehmed Rafet Ozdemir, was recently published in the journal of Applied Thermal Engineering, one of the most prestigious journals in Thermal Sciences field.   This article attracted much attention of Engineering community so that it was selected to the Key Scientific Featured Articles List of this week in the category of General Engineering in the website of Advances in Engineering, which features papers of exceptional scientific importance and intelligible to a broad scientific audience.  Advances in Engineering is highly selective. The invited articles are less than 0.1% of the whole published literature and were chosen by a team of advisers and experts in the field.  This study provides useful information about boiling instability phenomena in microchannels and offers a parametric comparative investigation. Alongside the experiments without any inlet restriction, experiments were conducted with configurations having inlet restrictions to suppress boiling instabilities. Temperature and pressure drop fluctuation signals were recorded and processed before premature CHF (Critical Heat Flux) conditions and at impending premature CHF conditions. Furthermore, Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) of the recorded data is performed for revealing the frequency correlations of the obtained fluctuations for observing the change in the FFT behavior. A significant rise in energy of the side lobes, which are basically the high frequency spectral regions, was proven from FFT profiles for impending premature CHF conditions implying that FFT could be used as a detection tool for premature CHF.
