FENS PROJ 302 Internship

Because of Covid-19 pandemic, the rules for completing the PROJ 302 course requirements will be changed as outlined below with the aim of easing the process of finding and completing internships. These changes are going to apply for the students who are registered to PROJ 302 course in the 2019-2020 Summer semester.

 1.     Students are allowed to conduct their internships online. The following requirements must be met for online internships:

a.       Students can conduct their online internship in a company in Turkey or abroad. Alternatively, the internship can be completed in a university abroad.

b.      A minimum of 40 days of work  (320 hours of work) must be completed.

c.       A project related to the student’s program and approved by the student’s academic supervisor must be completed.

d.      A report with a proper content and format will be submitted.

2.      Students can carry out “hybrid” internships: some of the work can be performed online, and the remaining can be completed in the company’s facilities.  

3.      Students can conduct online internship while taking courses from the Summer School. However, the times of summer schools courses or the days for PURE projects cannot be counted towards 40 days of work.

4.      Students must prepare a detailed time plan explaining how they allocate their times for their internships (online or not).

5.      Summer intenship must be completed before the first school day of the Fall semester.

6.      Considering the importance of the on-site practice for engineering education, the following options are recommended instead of an online internship:

a.       Delaying the internship for the next summer (Summer term of the 2020-2021 Academic Year)

b.    Part-time work while taking courses in either Fall or Spring semester the 2020-2021 Academic Year under the following conditions:

                                              i.      Such an internship cannot be an online internship. It cannot be a hybrid internship either. This rule may be revised depending on the pandemic related conditions as the semesters approach.  

                                                            ii.      Internship must be completed in a single company for a total of at least 40 work days.

                                                          iii.      Such an internship must be completed in a single semester (Summer, Fall, or Spring). Students cannot distribute the internship time to different semester

    iv.      Part-time jobs that students held in the past cannot be counted towards this option.
